Apple Halwa

A delightful photograph showcasing a plate of Apple Halwa. The plate contains a sweet and aromatic dessert made from grated apples cooked in ghee (clarified butter), sugar, and flavored with cardamom and other spices. The Apple Halwa has a rich golden color and is garnished with a sprinkling of crushed nuts, such as almonds or pistachios, adding a delightful crunch and visual appeal.

A delectable apple dessert made with grated/chopped apples, sugar, ghee, and cardamom powder in an Indian manner. This halwa does not require any extra ingredients, such as mawa or condensed milk. The technique is also quite simple and takes very little time. Before creating this halwa, make sure to read the recommendations and follow the recipe.

Ingredients for Apple Halwa:

  • 3 medium or 2 big apples, cut or shredded (about 500 grammes, 212 – 3 cups)
  • 5-6 sliced cashew nuts
  • 5-6 chopped almonds
  • A quarter cup of sugar (or to taste)
  • 2 tbsp. Ghee
  • Cardamom Powder or Cinnamon Powder, 1/4 teaspoon

Directions How to Make:

1. To make this halwa, choose sweet apples. Rinse the apples thoroughly. They should be peeled.

2. Use a knife to cut them into small pieces (or a chopper/food processor) or grate them with a grater. If you cut or grate the apples ahead of time, they will turn brown.

3. In a heavy-bottomed kadai or pan, melt 2 tablespoons of ghee over medium heat. Toss in the chopped almonds and cashews.

4. Fry them in a shallow pan until golden brown. Place them in a mixing dish.

5. Toss in the apples, chopped or grated, into the same kadai/pan. Cook for a few seconds after stirring.

6. Cook, covered, for about 5-6 minutes, or until soft.

7. Stir every now and then to avoid sticking.

8. Mash the apples gently with the backside of a spatula if you’re using chopped apples. Cook until the water has nearly completely evaporated.

9. Stir in 1/4 cup sugar (more or less, to taste). The amount of sugar required is determined by the sweetness of the apples.

10. Combine everything thoroughly. The mixture will get sticky as the sugar dissolves. Cook until the water has nearly completely evaporated.

11. Mix in 1/4 teaspoon cardamom powder thoroughly.

12. Extinguish the flame. Mix in the dried fruits thoroughly. The apple halwa is ready to eat.
